At a recent district ministers’ meeting, one of my colleagues claimed that serving on a ministerial search committee is the most difficult volunteer role in a church.  I would have quickly agreed if not for the fact that I have watched our devoted building committee over the past several months weather more storms than any committee should have to.  All of the stops and starts of our building project would be enough to send most volunteers running for the hills; however, these hearty folks keep coming back to the table for more.  I am humbled by their dedication and am proud of all they have accomplished.  So, may I suggest that the next time you see Al Powers, Chris Jorgensen, Greg Pelley, Dick Cayot, Keith Cranston, Bill Leonard, Nicky Keller, Kent Newman, Bill Paxson, or Mike Smith, you consider shaking their hands and offering a heartfelt “thank you.”  Trust me; they deserve it.   In the meantime, let’s all remember that this building renovation is a process…and it will unfold in its own time...no matter how much we may want to speed it up.  After all, the construction of the building we currently enjoy took a year longer than expected.  [For more history of our current building check out the sermon I preached in 2005 that kicked off the capital campaign: The Foundations We Did Not Lay]  I can assure you that those most closely involved in this effort, from the building committee to the board, are all focused on getting the most for our money…and for our future together.   What a gift to us all!

See you in church, soon with more “room to bloom”…
