Connecting the Dots: Social Justice at First Unitarian Church of Des Moines

Even during this time of COVID-19, our members are engaged in social justice work. Over the summer the Social Justice Ministry Leadership Team (SJMLT) held several Zoom meetings to consider how we can support all of you who are working to create justice in our community through work with local organizations or national ones, through direct action or financial support, through letters to Congress, or protests in our local communities.
The SJMLT’s mission is to support Social Justice activism with Knowledge, Connection and Encouragement. Toward this, the Team is sponsoring the following opportunity:
What: Wellspring – Faithful Action
When: 2nd & 4th Sunday of the month, 6 – 8 pm, from September 2020 – May 2021
Where: Zoom
Who: Anyone who is interested in deepening their connection to social justice in a Unitarian Universalist context, and examining the way their own spiritual/ethical journey connects to their desire to serve the wider world.
Here’s a sample of some of the session titles:
  • Serving or Fixing?
  • Finding Common Ground as Faithful Action
  • Caring for Ourselves
  • Listening to the Needs of Others
  • And 14 more!
Wellspring will be co-facilitated by Katie Allen and Sally Boeckholt.
