Member Spotlight: Christen Bain and CN “Anderson” Anderson

Christen Bain and CN Anderson, who goes by Anderson, have been members of First Unitarian Church of Des Moines for five years. Christen works in marketing and Anderson is a software developer. Christen grew up just outside of Kansas City and moved to Des Moines in 2004. Anderson grew up in Windsor Heights. They met each other while they were students at Drake University. Since they’ve been together, they called the Drake, Valley Junction, and Beaverdale neighborhoods home, before settling in on the south side of Des Moines. They are the parents of two feline children, 15-year old Tagliatelle and 8-year old Rotini. Christen is a Francophile and enjoys engaging with the French community in Des Moines, along with reading, doing watercolors, and teaches technology in Senior College classes and to the residents of Wesley Acres. Anderson loves playing games with friends and swimming when their backyard pool is up and going!
Christen and Anderson came to First Unitarian because of connections they had to some of the faculty at Drake who were involved with the church. They’ve both helped to organize the Christmas and Halloween parties. Christen was one of the Hospitality group leaders; she is currently participating in Soul Matters and Wellspring. They said, “First Unitarian is a great community of very thoughtful people. They inspire us to be more and do more.”
