Paul Bridgford, Friend of First Unitarian and accomplished wildlife artist, is displaying his artwork at First Unitarian during October.
During summers spent with his paternal grandparents on the Cedar River in Moscow, Iowa, Paul felt called to the natural world around him. He began his wildlife art career while stationed with the US Air Force in Idaho. The birds of prey he painted in those mountains developed his sense of realism and detail.
Paul has won 14 wildlife stamp competitions in seven states and finished second in the Federal Duck stamp competition in 1985 and 2013. He became the first and only person in the history of the Iowa stamp contests to win all three Iowa contests, winning the Duck, Trout and Habitat contests in 1983. And in 1986, he repeated winning all three contests again. After a 40-year career as an advertising art director, Paul has retired to full-time painting.
Meet the artist Sunday, October 7, between services.
