Arundhati Roy described it poignantly: “Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next.”*
Pachamama Alliance Iowa is part of a global Pachamama Alliance community. We are an affiliated group of First Unitarian Church of Des Moines and are focused on environmental issues facing local communities and the state of Iowa. In this capacity we work toward bringing about a world that is environmentally sustainable, socially just, and spiritually fulfilling. We work at putting life and supportive mutual relationships at the center of every action and decision. For more information go to Pachamama.org.
Currently we are offering “Share, Community, Action” events focused on Paul Hawken’s Regeneration Ending the Climate Crisis in One Generation. Hawken’s book serves as a gateway into the Regeneration.org website. We are also planning to host an Awakening the Dreamer Event, a class created by Pachamama Alliance as part of the fall Adult Religious Education opportunities.

“Greenhouse gas emissions keep growing. Global temperatures keep rising. And our planet is fast approaching tipping points that will make climate chaos irreversible. We are on a highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator.”
-António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, COP 27 Nov 2022
Class Description:
Time is running out for opportunities to stop and look at the challenging state of the world’s climate crisis, reflect on the changes needed, and clarify where you are being called to action. We invite you to be inspired by action and to join us in “Awakening the Dreamer,” a three-session exploratory experience being held from 1:30 to 3:00 PM on the following Sundays: February 5 & 19 & March 5.
Session 1: “Where Are We?” and “How Did We Get Here?”
Session 2: “What New Story is Emerging?” and “What is Possible Now?”
Session 3: “Where Do We Go from Here?”
Advance registration is required and all registrants are expected to attend all 3 sessions as we will build on previous sessions. We’ll be conversing with each other, sharing information, and building experiences for future connections as we work to change the trajectory.
First Unitarian Church (1800 Bell Avenue, Des Moines) will be the zoom host for this hybrid in-person/zoom interactive experience. We encourage you to organize gatherings and facilitate discussions with your local climate justice group or congregation (contact us for information and instructions). Register for all 3 sessions below and you will receive more information, including the zoom link. You are welcome to email us with any questions at pachamamaallianceiowa@gmail.com.
