>> Gift-giving and gift-receiving in our culture can sometimes feel like an exchange of capital, and an awkward one at that.  But when we think about the gifts that we have given and received that have meant the most to us, they are often not about the gift itself, but about the presence that was offered with or through the gift.  In fact, presence offered without expectation of anything in return could be the gift that most reliably keeps giving, for these are the gifts that move.
