Volunteering is what we do when we help serve a meal at the homeless shelter, build a house with Habitat, or help sort books at the Planned Parenthood book sale.
Volunteering is what we do at a place that is Important to us—but not at a place that belongs to us. A volunteer, in most cases, is just visiting. Maybe it’s helpful, but it’s not the same as belonging to something. It’s not the same as contributing. Sunday’s sermon reflects on why leadership, stewardship and engagement in the church matter.
