Letters due: Thursday, July 16 @ 5 pm
Tell our U.S. Senators to take moral action to end police violence and support the Justice in Policing Act.
The UU General Assembly delegates passed an Action of Immediate Witness calling UU’s to address police practices. The UUA president Rev. Dr. Susan Frederick-Gray said “This moment calls us to be prophetic and to imagine a world without policing…that centers collective care, community investment, and restorative justice, rather than surveillance, punishment, incarceration and policing.”
Tell our Senators to pass the Justice in Policing Act (H.R.7120 / S.3912), developed by the Congressional Black Caucus. The bill passed in the House and now awaits Senate consideration.
This link to July handout includes: background on the issue, talking points, a sample letter and instructions on how to send your letter. Again, our letters are due by Thursday, July 16 at 5 pm.
Letters to our senators will be delivered by the UUs for Social Justice Capitol Hill Advocacy Corps via email during this period of social distancing.
