We enjoy and create music in many ways. Adults can join the UU Singers and/or the Bell Ave. Ringers. Children can participate in music activities as part of the Children’s Chalice Choir. Our Sunday services also feature local musicians as part of our Special Music program. You might hear a woodwind group, a folk singer, or some swinging jazz. We enjoy bringing the diversity of music in Des Moines to our church.
If you have questions about our choir programs, contact Director of Music Karen Kraemer (she/her/hers) at email@example.com with questions.
We’re also proud to host the Progressive Voices Concerts, which bring musicians from around the country to our church to share their unique talents with a Des Moines audience. Since 2010, this music series has promoted compassion for, and celebration of, the universal human condition in all its forms and variations. Our UU Singers welcome all adults and high school students with choral experience. The choir provides Sunday service music two times each month and rehearses on Thursdays from 7:00-8:30 p.m. CT from August to May. In addition, the choir also provides a music-focused Sunday service each year and performs occasionally in special concerts in the community. New singers are always welcome and encouraged to join the choir at any time throughout the year.
Contact director Karen Kraemer at email@example.com if it’s time to bring your singing out of the shower!
Bell Ave. Ringers
This musically motivated group of adult handbell ringers join together to create and perform beautiful music one Sunday each month. They rehearse weekly on Wednesday evenings from 5:45-6:45 p.m. CT from August to May. Though not required, some previous musical experience is encouraged.
Find out more about joining this enthusiastic group by contacting director Karen Kraemer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Children’s Chalice Choir
Our UU children and youth rehearse on Wednesday nights starting at 6:00 p.m. CT from August to May. Rehearsals are via Zoom as part of the Sing & Play the UU Way Program.
Rehearsals are filled with age-appropriate musical games, singing, and rhythm instruments sure to engage all young musicians ages 6-12! The Chalice Choir sings in Sunday services quarterly and on special holidays. The Chalice Choir program is directed by musically-talented volunteers as part of the larger Faith Formation program.
Contact Director of Faith Formation Devon McClurken (she/her/hers) at email@example.com about how your child(ren) can join the musical fun!
One Sunday each month, special music is provided by musicians from within our congregation or invited guest musicians. If you are a musically trained instrumentalist or vocalist interested in sharing your talents by performing in a Sunday service, please contact our Special Music Coordinator, Barb Martin, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
