Faith Formation Teacher (Part-Time)
First Unitarian Church of Des Moines is seeking a warm, enthusiastic, and reliable Faith Formation Teacher to join our Sunday morning children’s program! If you love working with kids, value inclusive spiritual exploration, and want to be part of a supportive team, we’d love to meet you.
About the Role
The Faith Formation Teacher leads a Sunday morning class for 20+ children ages 5–12, helping them explore Unitarian Universalist values through stories, activities, and community-building. This is a highly supported role, with a full-time staff member handling administrative tasks and experienced adult volunteers assisting in the classroom each week.
A Typical Sunday Morning Includes:
- Set up classroom
- Greet families and assist with check-in
- Lead Time for All Ages in the service
- Lead children to classroom
- Lead or support lesson/activities
- Assist with child check-out and family questions
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience teaching or leading children (childcare, education, camps, etc.)
- Commitment to Unitarian Universalist values
- Ability to support children with diverse needs, including autism, ADHD, and PTSD
- Friendly, organized, and dependable
Position Details:
- 5 hours per week
- $22/hour
- Background check and references required
