Tai Chi

What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi integrates the body and mind to improve health, fitness and relaxation. A form of martial art from China, it is now practiced as an enjoyable body/mind exercise.  Clinical studies show the gentle, fluid movements in Tai Chi enhance muscular strength, flexibility and stamina while promoting relaxation. Health benefits of balance and posture develop with regular practice.

How is Tai Chi practiced at First Unitarian?

Our core practice is Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention, a set of Sun style movements created by Dr. Paul Lam, Tai Chi for Health Institute.  Jan Knock, M.A., R.N. (Retired) is a certified instructor in this program and leads the class.

Students in the class share their own tai chi experiences and deepen our practice with Yang style and Qigong sets.

When does the Tai Chi class meet?

The class meets Monday and Thursday, 9:30 am – 10:30 am. In Griffin Hall except for holidays.  We are able to meet year-round due to the cooperative leadership we enjoy.
