Centering Nature

Please Join the Centering Nature Team at Jester Park on Saturday morning, July 26th!

The Centering Nature Team is hosting our first Nature gathering at Jester Park on Saturday morning, July 26th, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m.

Our theme for our July nature walk is “Respecting Our Roots,” a time to remember where we come from—and where we’re going.

We draw inspiration from Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer: “To become naturalized is to know that your ancestors lie in this ground. Here you will give your gifts and meet your responsibilities. To become naturalized is to live as if your children’s future matters, to take care of the land as if our lives and the lives of all our relatives depend on it. Because they do.”

We’ll meet at the Jester Park Nature Center parking lot. The Jester Park Nature Center is located at 12130 NW 128th St, Granger, IA 50109.

From the parking lot, we’ll walk on the trail near the nature center for about a mile (trail marker #3). If there’s interest afterwards, we invite you to visit the Elk and Bison enclosures just down the road.

During the walk, we will have time for conversation, reflections, and quiet. We’ll identify prairie plants and bird species, and connect more fully to the native and ancient land in which we live. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn about plants and birds, and to practice the spiritual aspects of nature, which is a wonderful mindfulness practice.

To attend, please make reservations here. Bring comfortable walking shoes, binoculars if you have them, and water and nourishment as needed.  Please do not attend if you are ill.
